- Before starting, please make sure your computer is connected to the network. This can be the wired connection if you have a docking station or the WiFi if you do not have one. Also, ensure that the laptop is connected to a power source to prevent an unexpected shutdown.
- Type “Update” in the bottom left corner where it says “Type here to search” and click on “Check for Updates”
- Click on “Check online for updates from Microsoft Update”.
- Wait for the updates to be shown. This can take a few minutes to show any updates.
- Once a list of updates appears, wait for all updates to finish. They will download and then install by themselves at this point. This can take around one hour to happen. You can minimize it if you want to work on your device while this is happening, but do not close the window by pressing the X at the top right of the page. Do not click on where it says “View optional updates” or click on anything for installing Windows 11.
- Some of the updates from the list will disappear, but you will end up with a few updates showing a status of “Pending Restart” once everything has finished loading. To complete the update, press the “Restart now” button when you have saved your work. The computer will take several minutes to restart, but updates will be complete once it turns back on completely and you arrive at the log in screen.
